This event will bring together Rio Vista residents for a conversation focused on local air quality issues and solutions.
Attendees will watch a short film created by local high school students and discuss Rio Vista's air quality issues and potential solutions, while sampling seasonal produce from local farms and learning about how a sustainable, locally grown food system can reduce air pollution.
Watch a Short Film Screening: Over the past several months, the Rio Vista Youth Air Protectors have been hard at work developing a short film to document their work in the internship. We will be watching the film to kick off our conversation about local air quality issues.
Sample the Bounty of the County: We will have locally grown, seasonal produce from Lockewood Acres Farm available for all to sample. We will also hold a drawing for a fresh, seasonal Farm Box from Lockewood Acres that will go home with one lucky attendee. Lockewood Acres produce is available to purchase at the Rio Vista Farmer's Market.
Help to Plan for Community Resilience: Our community is particularly vulnerable to the effects of air pollution. Of all counties in California, Solano County has the 3rd highest rate of emergency room visits due to Asthma. Rio Vista's rate of Asthma-related ER visits is even higher than the county average.
The community feedback collected during this session will be used to inform a Community-Driven Air Quality Action Plan that can be used to shape future planning and policy decisions in Rio Vista.
